- Whether you live here and walk by the many historical markers, or if you're planning to visit, make sure you stop and read the signs telling the remarkable story of this small American town. "CENTRE COUNTY: Formed on Feb. 13, 1800 from Huntingdon, Mifflin, Lycoming and Northumberland Counties. Named for its location in the State and home of the Pennsylvania State University. Five governors of Pennsylvania lived in Bellefonte; county seat laid out in 1795."
- Victorian Bellefonte
- Info on Historic Bellefonte. First-time visitors who walk along the Victorian streets of Bellefonte are often astonished at the architecture. Here is a tiny town, tucked into a valley almost exactly in the center of rural Pennsylvania, that seems strikingly out of place amid the surrounding farm villages and mining towns. The downtown streetscapes are primarily Victorian, the buildings immense, and all of them are adorned with filigree, cornices and pilasters from another era. Historic Bellefonte is located within an 8-hr drive for 2/3rds of the population of the United States. Conveniently located off I-80 in the heart of Pennsylvania, Bellefonte is only 3-4 hrs from New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and the Washington, D.C. area.
